What to make of the 76ers?

It’s been a long stretch since I have been excited about the 76ers. That’s about to change! There is something in the air in Philly that’s made our sports teams show out this year. We are coming off a loss by the Union, a World Series Defeat, and most depressing the Super Bowl. This last Monday was the most dejected I had seen the city since early in the pandemic.

Thankfully, the 76ers look like they are in prime position for a shot at a new banner. It’s true that we don’t have as deep a roster as Milwaukee or Boston, but we haven’t been as poised for a run depth wise, culturally, since the Jimmy Butler days (Where we tragically lost to Toronto who went all the way with Kawhi) .

Say what you want, but Daryl Morey has positioned us skillfully to get the most out of a win now team without pushing every last chip into the middle. With that said, it feels like our window is closing. I shutter to think how unfortunate another injury would be to Harden, Embiid, or a young Maxey. And, I wonder how free agency over the summer will shape up and how much we would be ready to reload (would it be possible to get Butler Back?).

If the past month has shown anything it’s that free agents may come from where you most expect it (Irving and Durant). Hopefully we’ll be wondering about it with a championship in hand!
